We are into Week 4, and I will be honest with you: it is still beautifully chaotic. Perfection does not exist at this age, and we are not chasing it. But what we are seeing is progression, and that is everything.
The striking is becoming more consistent. The ball is generally going in the right direction. The children are starting to understand how to move their bodies across the different activities. They are finding their favourite games, coming back to them, making them their own. That is the relationship with sport we are trying to build, and it is happening.
The structure is there, but it is held loosely. We want these children to feel free. Free to play, free to express themselves, free to find their own way in. That freedom is not accidental. It is the whole point.
So this week, at whatever level each child is at, we simply want them to show a friend how much fun they are having. Welcome to Buddy Week.
What Is Buddy Week?
At Week 4, each child brings a friend along to the session. Not to watch. To play. The two of them go through the games together, side by side, and here is the key part: the child who has been coming regularly takes the lead. They show their friend what to do, how the game works, where to stand. They demonstrate, they encourage, they share.
What you see in that moment is something no coach can manufacture. When a child explains a skill to another child, they are not just teaching. They are consolidating everything they have quietly built over the past three weeks. The understanding goes deeper. The confidence becomes real. And the friend, watching a peer rather than an adult, finds it far easier to follow and copy.
It is peer-to-peer learning at its best, and at this age it is extraordinarily powerful. Children show each other things that coaches spend years trying to teach.
You are still very much part of the session. Nothing changes on that front. But this week, watch what your child does when they are the one who knows the ropes. You may surprise yourself with what you see.

My Number One Tip for Junior Golfers
This week I published a piece I have been wanting to write for a while. It is my single most important piece of advice for every parent who brings a child to TigerTOTS, and it has nothing to do with the golf swing.
When a child runs into difficulty, on the course or anywhere else in life, the most valuable thing you can do is give them the space to own that moment themselves. Not fix it for them. Not steer them around it. Let them sit with it, work through it, and come out the other side knowing they did it. That is what builds the kind of character that lasts.
